Connecting marginalised communities to
safer trades people

Inviting a stranger into your home when you need help with repairs can be a daunting and uncomfortable experience, particularly for marginalised people. Safe Trades is a grassroots initiative designed to connect marginalised communities with safer trades people.

This community service directory is based in Naarm, on Wurundjeri and Boon Woorung Country.
We pay our respects to Elders past and present. Sovereignty has not been ceded.
Always was, always will be, Aboriginal Land.

Registrations are open to trades people who are gender inclusive, anti-racist, queer friendly, communicative around needs and boundaries, happy to wear masks, respect personal space, are non-judgemental about people's living spaces, and are open to feedback.

Members of marginalised communities are strongly encouraged to register! It’s a free directory, and we’d love to keep money in the pockets of our communities.

Sign ups are now open for tradies to register your trade skills (whatever level), pay rates, whether you offer skills for trades or mutual aid, your access needs and what communities you’re part of.

All trades listed below have signed up via our Safe Trade registration form.

All trades who register are expected to be gender inclusive, anti-racist, queer friendly, communicative around needs and boundaries, happy to wear masks, respectful of personal space, non-judgemental about people's living spaces, and open to feedback.

Please note that this is a self-registration process. The willingness to fill out this kind of questionnaire, is probably a pretty good filter for relative safety, however please use your own intuition, judgement & discernment about who feels safe for you. We recognise that safety is not a one size fits all, in every context for every person. We trust you to use your discretion, as you would when calling any trades person to your home.

You can review their self described skills, mutual aid offerings, location, openness to trades in exchange for skills, and introductions below, categorised by trade.

If you have an unsafe experience with a trade, please write to us and let us know.
Trades who receive multiple reports they will be removed from the directory.
